History & Description

Origin

Mandanova is a modern, patented variety from the breeding program of the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) in South Africa. It was obtained in the 1990s by irradiating buds of the 'Nova' variety (Clemenvilla), a technique used to induce sterility and thus guarantee completely seedless fruit.

Tree description

The tree is vigorous and requires good pruning as well as careful fertilization to optimize fruit size and production.

Fruit quality

It produces a superb fruit with dark red-orange skin. The flesh is firm, very juicy, and contains no seeds, a major commercial asset.

Flavor and ornamental interest

Its flavor is rich and distinctive, often recalling red fruit such as raspberry. It is a "premium" mandarin for lovers of intense flavors.
