History & Description

Origin

Amoa 8 is an exceptional Italian hybrid developed by the CRA-ACM research center in Acireale, Sicily. It comes from a cross between the Moro blood orange (Citrus sinensis) and the Avana mandarin (Citrus deliciosa).

Tree description

It is a tree with a compact, attractive habit, ideal for pot culture or small gardens. It is moderately vigorous but very productive. Its leaves are an intense dark green.

Fruit quality

The fruit looks like a mandarin that turns a dark red, almost purple, at full ripeness. The flesh is incredibly dark, rich in anthocyanins (red antioxidant pigments).

Flavor and ornamental interest

In flavor, it is an explosion of tastes that marries the sweetness of the mandarin with the red-fruit notes typical of blood oranges. Ornamentally, the contrast between the foliage and the purple fruit is spectacular.
