History & Description

Origin

Kuno Wase belongs to the 'Goku Wase' group (very early). Discovered in Japan in 1910, it is a mutation of the Nagahashi variety, selected to ripen before all the others.

Tree description

The tree has low vigor, is compact and very floriferous. It tends to produce many small fruits, requiring thinning to obtain a good size.

Fruit quality

The fruit is medium-sized, with thin skin. It is ripe in flavor while the rind is still partly green, offering an interesting visual contrast.

Flavor and ornamental interest

It is the back-to-school mandarin. Although very early varieties are often less sweet than late ones, Kuno offers surprising quality, with tender flesh and a mild flavor that is very enjoyable from late summer.
