History & Description

Origin

Clausellina is a notable exception: it is a variety of Spanish origin, discovered as a mutation on a branch of Owari satsuma in the Castellón region. It is widely grown in Spain for its earliness.

Tree description

The tree has low to medium vigor, with an open, drooping habit. Its modest size makes it particularly well suited to small gardens or container growing.

Fruit quality

It produces medium-sized fruit of good visual quality. It is a "Wase" (early) variety, whose skin colors quickly as fall approaches.

Flavor and ornamental interest

Its main appeal is opening the season. Although its flavor quality is sometimes judged slightly below a Miyagawa or an Owari (flesh a little drier late in ripening), it remains an excellent sweet, seedless mandarin for September to October.
